Luis Mário de Souza Pinto studied theology at the Northeast Adventist Teaching Institute (IAENE), currently Adventist Faculty of Bahia (FADBA), graduating in 1990. He completed a master’s in theology in 2000 at the Adventist University of São Paulo (UNASP) and began a master’s in leadership in 2014 (incomplete). He was a district pastor for ten years in Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba. He then served as an administrator for the Adventist Church for ten years in Curitiba, Brazil; Bolivia; and Espírito Santo, Brazil. He is currently one of two vice presidents of the South American Division of the Adventist Church and director of religious liberty.
