Sikumbang Harniati

Director of Human Rights Cooperation, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Indonesia

Sikumbang Harniati has worked for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for the Republic of Indonesia since 1998. In October 2023 he was appointed director of human rights cooperation. Previously, he was head of the Division on Law and Human Rights public service division at the regional office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in North Moluccas Province, West Nusa Tenggara Province, and West Borneo Province (2019–2023). Dr. Harniati’s doctoral studies dealt with human rights, and he joined the Directorate of Human Rights soon after his graduation in 2013. He feels that promoting human rights is a daily duty—particularly protecting the right to religion—so the directorate has collaborated with several domestic and international colleges and also the Leimena Institute to educate people around Indonesia about the need to respect human rights.
