Professor Robert T. Smith, Managing Director of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University, spoke at the conference “Filling the Void: Meeting the Ethical Needs of Students.” The conference was sponsored by the Penn State Center for Ethics & Religious Affairs and was held on 20 October 2011 at the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center – Eisenhower Chapel, at Pennsylvania State University. The conference focused on the topics: Can we have religious/spiritual organizations on campus? Do we need a multi-faith center to accommodate religion and spirituality? and What are other campuses and communities doing?

Professor Smith’s paper addressed “Legal Ramifications of Religion on Campus.” Other participants in the event included Arun Gandhi, grandson of the late Mahatma Gandhi, and Philip Jenkins, Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Humanities at The Pennsylvania State University and a Distinguished Senior Fellow at Baylor University’s Institute for Studies of Religion.
