Peter Leman is an associate professor of English and an affiliate in Africana studies at Brigham Young University. His academic expertise lies in global anglophone and postcolonial literatures, with a particular focus on African literature and the intersections of law and literature. Dr. Leman received his PhD in English from the University of California, Irvine, in 2011. He is the author of Singing the Law: Oral Jurisprudence and the Crisis of Colonial Modernity in East Africa (2020), which examines the role of oral traditions and legal systems in East African literature during colonial rule. He has also contributed to various academic journals, including Research in African Literatures, Law and Literature, and the Journal of Global Postcolonial Studies, on topics such as postcolonial legal history, dictatorship in literature, and emergency narratives.
