Ján Šikuta, President, Supreme Court of Slovakia
Ján Šikuta has been active in the judicial profession for almost four decades. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in Slovakia with a JUDr degree. He did postgraduate studies in law at the Faculty of Law of Charles University in Czechia and obtained a PhD from the Faculty of Law of Pan-European University in Slovakia. He has been on a number of research fellowships abroad. He studied international humanitarian law and asylum law at Exeter College at the University of Oxford and human rights at John Abbott College in Montreal, Canada. Šikuta has participated in several UN human rights courses, delivered numerous guest lectures abroad, and authored or coauthored dozens of scientific publications. He served as a legal officer at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and as a judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. He is a judge of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, a presiding judge of a panel, and a president of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic.
