Guershon Kwasniewski, Rabbi, World Union for Progressive Judaism
Rabbi Guershon Kwasniewski is a prominent figure in the realm of progressive Judaism and interfaith dialogue in Latin America. In 2023 he became Latin America’s geographic representative to the executive board of the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) as well as vice president of the Council of Reform Brazilian Rabbis. Rabbi Kwasniewski works tirelessly to foster interfaith understanding and collaboration. He has served as the national representative of the Jewish Confederation of Brazil for interfaith dialogue since 2021. In addition, he is a member of Religions for Peace Latin America and coordinator of the Interfaith Dialogue Group in Porto Alegre, Brazil. His engagement with the Catholic-Judaic Commission of the National Commission of the Archbishops of Brazil further exemplifies his commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding among diverse religious groups. Rabbi Kwasniewski’s legacy of leadership began with the cofounding of WUPJ Latin America in 2009, which has had a lasting impact on the progressive Jewish movement in the region. In 2014 he cofounded the Council of Reform Brazilian Rabbis. Rabbi Kwasniewski has been a guiding force in his community, serving as a rabbi at SIBRA’s synagogue since 1996.
