Symposium Interpreter and Reporter

Gaylee Page Coverston has lived in Brazil at various times during her life, which created a love for the people, the language and their culture that is truly a part of her soul. Her love for the Portuguese language directed her studies and she graduated from BYU with a bachelors in Linguistics and in Portuguese Literature. She went on to study in the BYU Portuguese Master’s program but was unable to finish due to family medical concerns. She has translated and continues to translate legal documents and any other items needing translation from Portuguese to English or from English to Portuguese.  She translated an Aids Prevention Program called “Stay Alive” for use in Mozambique and other Portuguese speaking nations. She currently translates as needed for the NGO Care for Life, which works in Mozambique, Africa. For Gaylee, education is more than just book learning, it is also learning of other people and their needs and hopes. This is why ICLRS’s sharing of religious concepts and ideas and protecting the freedom to have those beliefs brought Gaylee to become a part of the ICLRS organization. Gaylee’s most profound joy and greatest accomplishment is her family. She is married to a wonderful man, Jason Coverston, and they have five beautiful children. She considers herself a career mother who has had wonderful opportunities to add to society through her children and though her love of Portuguese. Education also is very important to her. She was one of the first two original founders of Mountainville Academy Charter School in Alpine, Utah. She also served on the Mountainville Academy Board for four years. She worked on the Portuguese Literacy Program created for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
