Gabriel Xavier da Barca Júnior, Member of Parliament
Gabriel Xavier da Barca Júnior is a businessman, member of Parliament, and international consultant. Son of a Christian father and a Muslim mother, he is one of the youngest of seven brothers who lived through the horrors of seeing their family separated by civil war. Today Xavier da Barca Júnior is a true mobilizer of the masses. Popularly known as “O Filho do Povo,” he is Mozambique’s most-followed public figure in the fields of communication, politics, and business, with more than one million social media followers. He also founded one of the largest media groups in Mozambique, which includes one of the country’s most-watched channels, TV Sucesso. Xavier da Barca Júnior is currently serving his second term as a deputy of the Assembly of the Republic. He established the Mozambique Malaria Fund to assist the government in raising funds to support the fight against malaria, and he founded an organization that supports the neediest people by constructing homes and awarding educational scholarships. Additionally, he is head of the Mozambique Boxing Federation, president of the African Boxing Confederation for Southern Africa, and president of communication and marketing for Mozambique’s Olympic Committee.
