Bruce is a nationally recognized scholar on family relationships, children, and education. He earned a juris doctorate from the University of Utah. Bruce is also a former dean of Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, which he helped to establish. He is the former president of BYU-Idaho, and provost at BYU. Bruce served in the First Quorum of the Seventy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until October of 2010. He married Marie Kartchner in 1964.
Marie is a mother, writer, editor, and instructor. She has taught religion, literature, and writing at Brigham Young University-Idaho and BYU. Marie received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from BYU in English, and was raised in Bountiful, Utah. Marie and her husband, Bruce, are the parents of seven children and 46 grandchildren (two deceased).
