The Seventeenth Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, “Religion in Contemporary Legal Systems,” took place at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in Provo, Utah, from 3 to 5 October 2010. Message from the Director
I want to express my deep appreciation for all those who helped make this year’s International Law and Religion Symposium possible. I am very grateful for all of the delegates, who came from so many countries to spend time discussing the importance of religious freedom. I am also grateful for the assistance provided by many friends of the Center and conference attendees, who helped welcome our delegates to Utah. I am immensely grateful as well for countless hours of volunteer service rendered by faculty members from the law school and elsewhere on campus, and the dozens of students who helped in so many ways….

The Seventeenth Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, “Religion in Contemporary Legal Systems,” will be held 3-5 October 2010 at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School in Provo, Utah. This year’s Symposium will bring together more than 75 distinguished delegates from 38 countries to discuss such topics as “Islam in Contemporary Legal Systems,” “Religion, Law, and the Encounter with Secularism,” and “The Challenge of Protecting Religious Sensitivities.” Again this year the plenary sessions, beginning with the opening session on Sunday evening, 3 October, will be streamed live over the Internet in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese from the Law School’s Moot Court Room. Griffith, Judge United States Court of Appeals for the District of Colombia, as a keynote speaker at the opening session of the Seventeenth Annual International Law and Religion Symposium, held Sunday evening, 3 October 2010 in the Moot Court Room of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. Judge Griffith was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals in June 2005. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1978 and from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1985.
