Professor Akin Ibidapo-Obe is a professor in the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law,
University of Lagos, Nigeria. A former dan of the Faculty of Law, Ibidapo-Obe is the Founding
Coordinator of the West African Regional Centre for Law and Religion Studies (WARCLARS).
WARCLARS has worked closely with the International Center for Law and Religions Studies
(ICLRS) at the BYU Law School to mount several law and religion projects and initiatives
including creating an Introduction of Law and Religion Studies course in the Faculty of Law;
establishing The Nigerian Judicial Expert Group on Law and Religion; and establishing the West
African Traditional Council on Law and Religion to bring law and religion studies from the
university classroom to the grassroot communities.
WARCLARS is established to be a training hub in Law and Religion Studies for the entire West
African sub- region to create a pool of academics, lawyers, and religion practitioners in West
Africa who are sensitive to Law and Religion issues. WARCLARS has in the past six years
mounted law and religion studies training programs for judges, the Nigerian Bar Association,
and lecturers and students of thirty universities in Nigeria.
