Third Annual Religious Freedom Student Writing Competition

All submissions for the Third Annual Religious Freedom Student Writing Competition have now been received. The competition is sponsored by the Washington DC Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University. Awards will be presented at the Religious Freedom Awards Dinner in Washington DC on October 11, 2012. 

The contest seeks scholarly papers relating to the topic of religious freedom, broadly or narrowly construed, consisting of 9,000 – 13,000 words. The purpose of the competition is “to promote legal and academic studies in the field of religious liberty by law students and students pursuing related graduate studies.” Students who have graduated from law school but who are not yet practicing law due to clerkships or other similar pursuits are also invited to submit papers. 

All papers are now being reviewed for their conformity to the requirements and for their substantive treatment of the topic.  Top entries will receive the following awards:

FIRST PLACE $1,500 cash award, plus $500 travel reimbursement for attendance at Awards Dinner.

SECOND PLACE $1000 cash award

THIRD PLACE $500 cash award

HONORABLE MENTION Additional meritorious papers will be acknowledged.
