Based upon the premise that the power of the Book of Mormon comes in part from the fact that it is a book about families, this collection brings together work of some of the most trusted names in LDS gospel study, including General Authorities of the Church and current and former faculty at Brigham Young University. ICLRS Director W. Cole Durham, Jr. contributed a chapter on the final prophet of the Book of Mormon, Moroni, a man who “inherited a burden of loneliness virtually unparalleled in human history” and so is connected in significant ways with modern life, as the “increasing disintegration of families, the anonymity and isolation of modern urban life, the problems of old age … have created broad undercurrents of loneliness throughout much of our society” (p. 228).
