David Weidman is the director of missionary effectiveness in the Missionary Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was formerly chairman and CEO of Celanese Corporation, a $6.4 billion global integrated chemical company. Prior to this appointment, he was vice chairman of the Celanese AG Board of Management and COO of Celanese AG. He joined Celanese AG as CEO of the company’s chemicals business. Before joining Celanese he was president of Allied Signal’s Performance Polymers business. David earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from BYU and his MBA from the University of Michigan. He served as president of the California Los Angeles Mission.
Rachel Weidman served with her husband as he presided over the California Los Angeles Mission from 2013 to 2016. She enjoys reading (especially literature and history) and interior design. Rachel has had callings in Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and CES. David and Rachel have six children and wonderful grandchildren.
