Anba Angaelos

His Eminence Archbishop Anba Angaelos is the first Coptic Orthodox archbishop of London, having served as general bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK since 1999 and as a monk priest from 1995 to 1999. He was conferred the honor of Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty The Queen for Services to International Religious Freedom. Archbishop Angaelos has also been conferred the Lambeth Cross for Ecumenism by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Coventry Cross of Nails for Reconciliation by the Bishop and Dean of Coventry. Archbishop Angaelos is the founder and director of REFCEMI, the Coptic Orthodox Church’s first office for advocacy and public policy. He is the founder and convener of the Asylum Advocacy Group and often issues statements relating to current religious and minority issues; his comments are frequently sought on matters of human rights, civil liberties, and international religious freedom. He has visited refugee camps in several countries and works tirelessly to assist those in greatest need.
