Héctor Oswaldo Samayoa Sosa has served as a university professor teaching international humanitarian law and as a consultant for the International Labour Organization, the Canadian Educational Association of Justice, and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Guatemala. He specializes in international humanitarian law with expertise in conventionality control, jurisprudential dialogues, dignity protection, neo-constitutionalism, and constitutional mutation in human rights. He has a notable research background in international human rights law, including expertise in creating training manuals for the prevention of torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. He has also provided training on prevention topics for the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman and the Public Ministry. As a legal advisor in international humanitarian law and use of force, he has worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Mexico, Central America, and Cuba. He has been involved in
political advocacy for criminal justice reform, including efforts at the judicial, legislative, and executive levels, to improve the penitentiary, forensic, and police systems.
