Most Reverend Dr. Peter Machado, the distinguished Metropolitan Archbishop of Bangalore, stands as the venerable seventh shepherd of the revered Archdiocese of Bangalore. Ordained as a Priest on 8 December 1978 for the diocese of Karwar, Archbishop Machado’s commitment to his calling was fortified by academic excellence. His pursuit of knowledge led him to attain a doctorate in canon law from the prestigious Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was appointed as the Bishop of Belagavi by the venerable Pope Benedict XVI on 2 February 2006. Over the course of twelve years in this role, Archbishop Machado orchestrated transformative pastoral, educational, and social initiatives that left an indelible mark on the diocese. Numerous churches and educational institutions were erected under his guidance, fostering overall upliftment and welfare for the underprivileged. Renowned for his simplicity and unwavering work ethic, he possesses a profound love for the marginalized and impoverished. Currently serving as the chairman for the Karnataka Region Catholic Bishops’ Council and presiding as the president of the All-Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights, he continues to exemplify a profound commitment to the spiritual, social, and educational welfare of the community.
