For 40 years, Rabbi David Nathan Saperstein directed the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC), which represents the Reform Jewish Movement—the largest segment of American Jewry—to the US Congress and administration. He continues doing social justice and policy work with the RAC. During the second term of the Obama administration, Rabbi Saperstein served as the US ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom. Among other government roles, he served as the inaugural chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, and he currently chairs a federal advisory committee on human trafficking. Also an attorney, Rabbi Saperstein taught seminars on church-state law and on Jewish law for 35 years at Georgetown University Law Center. Over his decades of service, he has chaired half a dozen national and international interfaith coalitions; he currently serves as the chair of the World Faith Development Dialogue and cochair of the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network.
