Ana Rita Nascimento Cabral Bonham was born and raised in Fortaleza, Ceará, in the northeast of Brazil. She is the oldest daughter of Rita and Marcos Cabral. At the age of 16, she started at law school at the Universidade de Fortaleza, where she became a professor years later. She earned a bachelor’s degree in law and a master’s degree in constitutional law, both from Universidade de Fortaleza. Bonham completed a PhD at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, where she wrote a dissertation about international tax law and constitutional tax law. She also has a postdoctorate degree in law from the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. As a Brazilian lawyer, Bonham is a member of the Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB-CE) and an associate member of the Conselho Nacional em Pesquisa e Pós Graduação em Direito (CONPEDI, Brazil). Nowadays, she works as a faculty research fellow for BYU Law School. She is married to McKay Bonham, an astrophysicist and software engineer, and they live in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
