Salman Aslam Butt, Partner, Cornelius, Lane and Mufti
Salman Aslam Butt has almost four decades of experience in corporate, commercial, and constitutional law. He is a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a title that is conferred upon the most experienced and seasoned litigators appearing before that court. From January 2014 to March 2016, Butt served as attorney general for Pakistan. In that capacity he also acted as the ex officio chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council—the apex regulatory body of the legal profession—and ex officio member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan. As attorney general for Pakistan, Butt represented the government of Pakistan before the Supreme Court in several landmark constitutional and fiscal matters, including a successful defense of the 21st constitutional amendment and Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC). Additionally, he also represented the government of Pakistan in several international arbitrations.
